Data in the cloud. In my cloud.

My approach is: I want to have all data in the cloud. In my cloud. Not somewhere in the internet, but only on my NAS at home in my intranet. Except for me and services which I provide noone has access to data. According to the applicaton family and guests. But never managed by someone else.

I don't want to have any data at some manufacturer (Miele, grünbeck) or smart home manager (IKEA, Smart Home by Hornbach, Tuya). Usually I enforce this by giving the devices access to the intranet, but not to the internet.

A manufacturer who asks why I do not trust him to store my data didn't understand the idea of the cloud. A manufacturer who makes it possible to make use of all services without registration or contacting his server is trustworthy. As soon as a manufacturer makes it necessary to give data to him to make full use of all functions or enforces a registration, he is not trustworthy. This includes not to make the use of an app necessary. It can be difficult to check the data traffic of the app and the app may stop to be provided somewhen in the future.

PS: On 2023-11-18 Philips announced that Philips Hue won't be useable anymore without registration. From now on I won't buy any Philips Hue-components anymore, which actually work fine without Philips-software.
